John Tenniel (1820-1914) was an English illustrator and cartoonist, best known for his work in the British satirical magazine Punch. He is most famous for illustrating Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass. Tenniel also created political cartoons, including one depicting Prime Minister William Gladstone as a knight rescuing Britain from a dragon representing Irish Home Rule.
