Emile Munier Collection

Emile Munier (1840-1895) was a French academic artist and painter. He was born in Paris and studied at the École des Beaux-Arts under the tutelage of Léon Cogniet. His work focused on genre scenes, often featuring children, as well as portraits and landscapes. He exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon from 1863 to 1891, winning medals in 1868, 1870, and 1872. In addition to his painting career he also worked as an illustrator for several magazines and books including La Vie Moderne, Le Petit Journal, L'Illustration Française et Illustrée, and Les Contes de Perrault. His works are held in numerous public collections including The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City; The Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg; Musée d'Orsay in Paris; Musée des Beaux-Arts de Bordeaux; Musée des Beaux-Arts de Rouen; Musée du Louvre; among others.
