Bartolome Murillo (1617-1682) was a Spanish Baroque painter who is best known for his religious works. He was born in Seville, Spain and trained under Francisco de Herrera the Elder. His style was influenced by the Italian masters of the Renaissance, as well as by his contemporary Diego Velazquez. He is particularly noted for his use of light and color to create a sense of atmosphere in his paintings. His subjects included biblical scenes, portraits, still lifes, and genre scenes depicting everyday life in 17th century Spain.
