Benvenuto Tisi da Garofalo was an Italian painter of the High Renaissance period, active mainly in Ferrara and Bologna. He is also known as Il Garofalo or simply Garofalo. He was born in Ferrara around 1481 and died in 1559. His works are characterized by a strong use of color and light, with a preference for warm tones such as reds, oranges, yellows and pinks. His paintings often depict religious scenes or mythological figures such as Venus or Cupid.
