EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the essence of Eyam, a picturesque village nestled in the heart of Derbyshire, England. The image showcases the historic Rose and Plague cottages, standing as a testament to the town's rich past and enduring spirit. The quaint architecture of these charming cottages takes us back in time, evoking a sense of nostalgia for bygone eras. With their traditional English design and vibrant colors, they exude an irresistible charm that is characteristic of this idyllic village. Eyam holds a significant place in history as one of the infamous plague villages. In 1665, when the bubonic plague reached its shores, Eyam made an extraordinary decision to quarantine itself from neighboring towns to prevent further spread. This selfless act resulted in immense sacrifice and loss for its residents but ultimately saved countless lives. As we gaze upon this photograph, we are reminded not only of Eyam's architectural beauty but also its resilience and courage throughout centuries. It serves as a reminder that even amidst adversity, communities can come together to protect one another. Pearl Bucknall/Robert Harding skillfully captures this moment with their photography expertise. Their lens transports us into this enchanting world where history meets contemporary life—a true testament to Eyam's enduring legacy within the United Kingdom and Europe at large.
