EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photo print, we are transported back to the picturesque countryside of Duncton in August 1953. The image captures a serene moment on Mr Peter Dallyn's farm at Duncton Common as he diligently ploughs-in the barley stubble. With his weathered hands firmly gripping the tractor's steering wheel, Mr Dallyn showcases his expertise in cultivating the land for future harvests. What truly adds charm to this scene is the presence of his adorable three-year-old daughter, July. Seated comfortably on her father's lap, she radiates pure joy and excitement as they traverse through the field together. Her tiny fingers point towards something unknown, perhaps an intriguing sight that has caught her attention amidst nature's beauty. The composition of this photograph perfectly encapsulates both hard work and family values intertwined harmoniously within rural life. It serves as a testament to generations past who dedicated their lives to farming and instilled their love for agriculture in their children from an early age. Preserved within West Sussex Record Office's George Garland Collection, this timeless snapshot allows us to reflect upon our agricultural heritage while appreciating the simplicity and innocence captured within its frame.
