EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the Arch of Trajan, a remarkable testament to the grandeur and legacy of Roman civilization. Located in Timgad (Thamugadi), Algeria, this ancient city was founded by Emperor Trajan around 100 AD. The arch itself is an architectural marvel, standing tall as a symbol of power and triumph. Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Arch of Trajan transports us back to the glory days of ancient Rome. Its imposing structure dominates the horizon, reminding us of the incredible craftsmanship and engineering prowess that characterized this era. The photograph captures the arch in all its splendor on a bright day. With no people present, it allows us to fully appreciate its magnificence without any distractions. The building exterior stands strong against time's passage, evoking feelings of awe and reverence for those who come across it. As we gaze upon this image, we are transported through history – from Emperor Trajan's reign during his visit to Thamugadi in circa 3rd century AD to Severus Age between 193-212 AD when he restored parts of Timgad. It serves as a tangible link connecting us with our past and highlighting humanity's ability to create enduring structures that withstand centuries. This print by DEA / G. DAGLI ORTI UIG from Universal Images Group (UIG) offers an opportunity for reflection on our shared heritage and appreciation for the wonders left behind by civilizations long gone but not forgotten.
