EDITORS COMMENTS
This vintage print captures the timeless beauty of Leeds' Kirkstall Abbey in the UK. The engraving, done in a 19th-century style, showcases the Cistercian monastery that was founded under the auspices of Henry VIII in 1152. Despite its ruined state, this Victorian-era abbey remains an iconic symbol of history and culture in West Yorkshire. The image depicts Kirkstall Abbey situated on the north bank of River Aire, surrounded by lush greenery. Its majestic architecture is showcased through intricate engravings and illustrative techniques employed by Arkheia in their 1885 engraving. Once a place of worship and contemplation for monks, today Kirkstall Abbey stands as a public park where visitors can explore its rich heritage. The dissolution during Henry VIII's reign may have left it dilapidated, but its charm has only grown over time. This retro-styled print from Universal Images Group (UIG) takes us back to an era when monasteries held great significance in society. It serves as a reminder of our historical roots and invites us to appreciate the architectural marvels that have stood against the test of time
