EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a moment in history when power and authority were embodied by Emperor William II of Germany. Dressed in the striking uniform of the Totenkopf (Deathshead) Hussars, he exudes strength and military prowess as he rides alongside his consort, Empress Augusta Victoria. The open carriage they occupy symbolizes their status and prominence within German society during this period. In 1919, amidst a changing world landscape, this image reflects a sense of togetherness between the emperor and empress. Looking away from the camera, they seem lost in thought or perhaps engaged in conversation about matters of state or personal importance. The mature couple's presence evokes an air of dignity and maturity that comes with years spent ruling over a nation. Their heterosexual partnership represents traditional values upheld by German culture at that time. As we gaze upon this historical snapshot, we are transported back to an era long gone but not forgotten. It serves as a reminder of the royalty that once graced our world with their regal presence
