EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a momentous occasion at the Ladies Gymkhana held at Hurlingham on 5th July 1924. The Honorable Mrs George Cooper, an extraordinary woman of her time, can be seen participating in several events with great enthusiasm and skill. Her determination shines through as she fearlessly takes on each challenge presented to her. The monochrome aesthetic adds a timeless quality to this twentieth-century image, transporting us back to an era between the wars when such gatherings were highly anticipated social events. The elegance and grace displayed by Mrs Cooper are emblematic of the spirit of these times. Central News has expertly preserved this remarkable piece of Europeana photography, allowing us to glimpse into a world long gone but not forgotten. As we admire this snapshot from history, we cannot help but marvel at the strength and resilience exhibited by women like Mrs Cooper who defied societal norms and pursued their passions wholeheartedly.
