This print from the Sheffield City Archives takes us back to a significant event in history - the devastating Sheffield Flood of 1864. The image captures the haunting ruins at Malin Bridge, with the iconic Hillsborough area visible in the background. Amidst the wreckage stands Cleakum Inn, also known as Malin Bridge Inn, a once-thriving public house that now serves as a somber reminder of this tragic natural disaster. The photograph transports us to a time when torrential rains caused unimaginable destruction throughout Sheffield. As we gaze upon these crumbling structures, it is impossible not to feel a sense of awe and melancholy for what was lost during those fateful days.
