EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back in time to the bustling streets of Sheffield's city center around 1900. The focal point is an intriguing advertisement for the Trades Unionists Sheep Shear Co-operative Society, proudly showcasing their steel sheep shears. This historic image offers a glimpse into the thriving cutlery industry that once flourished within these very walls at Brunswick Works on Eldon Street. The photograph captures the essence of an era when craftsmanship and trade unions played a vital role in shaping society. It serves as a testament to the dedication and skill of Sheffield's shear manufacturers, who were renowned for producing top-quality tools for farmers across the region. The bold lettering on this eye-catching advert reflects both pride and unity among trades unionists, highlighting their commitment to fair labor practices and cooperative principles. The Trades Unionists Sheep Shear Co-operative Society aimed to empower workers by providing them with reliable equipment while fostering camaraderie within their ranks.
