MODEL RELEASED. DNA electrophoresis. Researcher looks at samples of DNA (DeoxyriboNucleic Acid) fragments which have been separated by electro- phoresis. The fragments were labelled with a fluorescent marker and placed in a well in a sheet of agarose gel. The fragments (bright patches) were separated by applying an electric current across the gel. Some fragments moved faster through the gel and were separated from others over time. This process allows the composition of the DNA to be observed. The researcher is wearing clean-room clothing and a face mask to prevent the samples from becoming contaminated with his own DNA
