This print showcases the face of Charles Darwin, a renowned English naturalist and author of the groundbreaking book "Origin of Species". Created in 1881 by artist John Collier, this hand-coloured portrait aquatint captures the essence of Darwin's intellectual prowess. Considered one of the best representations of his appearance, it is mentioned in Francis Darwin's "Life and Letter of Charles Darwin" as a true reflection of his countenance. Darwin's theory on evolution by natural selection remains one of science's most significant and controversial ideas. It serves as the foundation for modern life sciences, shaping our understanding of human origins and biological diversity. This artwork symbolizes not only Darwin's genius but also his contributions to our understanding of the world.
