EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the mesmerizing beauty of noctilucent clouds illuminated by the Moon. These ethereal displays are a rare sight, only visible in the middle of summer nights at high latitudes. With their mysterious composition still unknown to scientists, these clouds exist at an astonishing altitude of 70-90 kilometers, far above our everyday cloud formations. Noctilucent clouds emerge when the sun is positioned 4-16 degrees below the observer's horizon, casting a whitish glow against the dark night sky. This particular photograph was taken in Finland, where lucky spectators were treated to this breathtaking celestial phenomenon. The image captures a moment frozen in time - an enchanting dance between light and darkness. As dusk settles over the landscape, these luminous clouds create an otherworldly spectacle that leaves onlookers awestruck. Intriguing and enigmatic, noctilucent clouds have long fascinated meteorologists and astronomers alike. Their presence serves as a reminder of nature's ability to surprise us with its hidden wonders even within our own atmosphere. This stunning visual masterpiece from Science Photo Library transports viewers into a realm where science meets art; where celestial phenomena intertwine with human curiosity.
