Fossilised skeleton of Homo erectus boy from Kenya
Homo erectus skeleton. View of a fossilised skeleton of an early human (Homo erectus). Despite being less than 12 years old, this boy was already 168 cm in height. Homo erectus, or erect man, lived between roughly 1.8-0.3 million years ago and originated in Africa. They were the first humans to leave Africa, reaching Asia and possibly southern Europe. H. erectus had prominent brow ridges and a projecting face. The skeleton, dated at 1.6 million years old, was found in Nariokotome in Kenya in 1984. It is in a Nordstar exhibition photographed at the Naturkundemuseum in Stuttgart, Germany

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the fossilized skeleton of a Homo erectus boy from Kenya. Belonging to the species known as "erect man". Homo erectus lived approximately 1.8-0.3 million years ago and originated in Africa. They were remarkable for being the first humans to venture beyond Africa, reaching Asia and potentially even southern Europe. Despite his tender age of less than 12 years old, this particular Homo erectus boy already stood an astonishing height of 168 cm. The photograph reveals the intricate details of his skeletal structure, including prominent brow ridges and a projecting face characteristic of H. erectus individuals. Discovered in Nariokotome, Kenya in 1984, this ancient relic is estimated to be around 1.6 million years old. It serves as a significant piece of evidence shedding light on our evolutionary history and understanding human origins. Displayed within a Nordstar exhibition at Germany's Naturkundemuseum in Stuttgart, this photograph offers viewers an opportunity to marvel at the wonders preserved by time itself. With its focus on anthropology, paleontology, bone structures, and hominids like Homo erectus, it provides invaluable insights into our ancestors' lives millions of years ago. Captured by Science Photo Library with utmost precision and expertise in palaeoanthropology photography, this image invites us to contemplate our shared heritage with these early humans who once roamed the Earth so long ago.
