EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the mesmerizing beauty of copper sulphate crystals under polarised light. The intricate details and vibrant colors are truly a sight to behold. These particular crystals are known as hydrated copper (II) sulphate, with the chemical formula CuSO4.5H2O. On a macroscopic scale, these crystals exhibit a strikingly intense blue hue that immediately catches the eye. Their unique structure and composition make them an intriguing subject for chemistry enthusiasts and researchers alike. Under the lens of a light microscope, this polarised light micrograph allows us to explore the fascinating world of crystal formation at a microscopic level. The delicate arrangement of atoms within each crystal is revealed through their distinct patterns and shapes. Copper sulphate is widely used in various industries due to its versatile properties as both a compound and salt. Its applications range from agriculture, where it serves as a fungicide or herbicide, to electroplating processes in manufacturing. Science Photo Library has masterfully captured this image, providing us with an opportunity to appreciate the wonders of nature's creations on an intimate scale. This print not only celebrates scientific curiosity but also reminds us of the inherent beauty found within even the most seemingly mundane compounds like copper sulphate.
