EDITORS COMMENTS
This print titled "Burning the candle at both ends" by Victor de Schwannberg captures a powerful conceptual image of a lit candle, symbolizing the detrimental effects of overwork and exhaustion. Against a striking black background, this thought-provoking composition delves into the realms of finance, business, and commerce. The flickering flames at both ends of the candle serve as a visual representation of individuals pushing themselves beyond their limits in pursuit of success. The wax slowly melting away signifies the toll that such relentless dedication takes on one's physical and mental well-being. With elements touching upon medicine and psychology, this image sheds light on the unhealthy consequences associated with an imbalanced work-life routine. It serves as a reminder to find equilibrium between professional aspirations and personal rejuvenation. The duo depicted here exemplifies those caught up in night shifts or overtime hours, unable to escape from insomnia or sleeplessness caused by overwhelming workloads. As we gaze upon this cutout against darkness, it compels us to reflect on our own lives and consider whether we too are burning our candles at both ends. Incorporating concepts from economics and lifestyle choices, this photograph urges us to reevaluate our priorities and seek healthier approaches to achieving success without sacrificing our well-being. Victor de Schwannberg's artistic portrayal encapsulates the essence of being overworked while igniting conversations about work-life balance in today's demanding world.
