EDITORS COMMENTS
This print from the early 1900s transports us to a sunny corner along the Truro River in Cornwall. The view up river reveals a picturesque scene that exudes tranquility and charm. With its idyllic setting, it's no wonder this spot became known as Sunny Corner. The photograph captures not only the natural beauty of the river but also provides glimpses into life during that era. In the foreground, we see several boats gracefully gliding through the calm waters, serving as a reminder of their vital role in transportation and trade at that time. Among them is an unidentified pleasure steamer on the left side of the frame, possibly either Queen of the Fal or Roseland. As our eyes wander further into this scenic panorama, we are greeted by rows of charming houses lining both sides of the riverbank. These quaint dwellings stand as testaments to Truro's rich history and architectural heritage. Although taken by an unknown photographer, this print has managed to preserve a moment frozen in time—a glimpse into Cornwall's past where nature harmoniously coexisted with human activity. It serves as a window into an era when boats were essential for travel and commerce while offering respite for those seeking leisurely adventures on these serene waters. Displayed at Royal Cornwall Museum, this image invites viewers to immerse themselves in its nostalgic ambiance and appreciate how much has changed since then while marveling at how much remains unchanged amidst Cornwall's ever-evolving landscape.
