EDITORS COMMENTS
The Fourburrow Hunt at Tregothnan Lodge captures a timeless moment in Cornwall's rich history. This photo print, taken around 1911 by the talented photographer Arthur William Jordan, transports us to an era of elegance and tradition. In this remarkable image, we see the esteemed members of The Fourburrow Hunt gathered at Tregothnan Lodge. Mrs Brickman, daughter of the master, exudes grace as she sits side saddle on her horse on the left. Standing proudly in the center is Lady Falmouth, radiating poise and sophistication. Behind them all stands Mr Aubrey Wallis, the respected Master of The Fourburrow Hunt. Tregothnan itself holds a fascinating legacy that dates back to 1334 when it became home to the Boscawen family. Rebuilt by Edward Boscawen in the early 19th century near its original location, this historic estate boasts Cornwall's largest garden—a true horticultural marvel. While normally reserved for private use, Tregothnan opens its doors to curious visitors for one weekend each year—an opportunity not to be missed for those seeking a glimpse into Cornwall's past. This stunning photograph encapsulates more than just a hunt; it immortalizes an era defined by camaraderie between man and beast amidst breathtaking Cornish landscapes. A testament to heritage and tradition that continues to thrive today.
