EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a glimpse into the bustling streets of Glasgow during the late 19th century. The focal point is Andersons Polytechnic Warehouse, an architectural gem that stood proudly on Jamaica Street. Dating back to around 1880, this image offers a remarkable window into Victorian Scotland. The warehouse itself exudes grandeur and sophistication with its ornate façade and towering presence. Its intricate details are beautifully captured in this photograph, showcasing the craftsmanship of the era. One can only imagine the vibrant activity that once took place within its walls – perhaps it served as a hub for commerce or housed various goods essential to daily life. Beyond Andersons Polytechnic Warehouse, we catch glimpses of other buildings lining Jamaica Street, each telling their own story about Glasgow's rich history. The architecture reflects both traditional Scottish elements and Victorian influences, creating a unique blend that characterizes this period. As we delve into this visual time capsule provided by the Royal Commission on The Ancient And Historical Monuments Of Scotland, we are transported back to an era where horse-drawn carriages traversed these cobbled streets and pedestrians bustled along their way. This photograph serves as a testament to Glasgow's past while also reminding us of how far we have come since then
