EDITORS COMMENTS
This print from the Royal Commission on The Ancient And Historical Monuments Of Scotland takes us back to Glasgow in 1965, specifically Gorbals, a district located in Lanarkshire, Scotland. As we gaze upon this aerial view facing northwest, we are transported to a time when the city was undergoing significant changes. The image showcases key landmarks that defined Glasgow's identity during that era. In the foreground lies Central Station, bustling with activity as trains arrive and depart. Its grand architecture stands as a testament to the city's industrial prowess and serves as a gateway for both locals and visitors alike. Beyond the station, our eyes are drawn towards Glasgow Green, an expansive public park teeming with life. Here families gather for leisurely strolls or picnics amidst lush greenery and vibrant flowerbeds—a peaceful oasis within an urban landscape. Stretching beyond is the majestic River Clyde—its waters reflecting sunlight like liquid silver. This iconic river has long been intertwined with Glasgow's history; once serving as a vital artery for trade and industry but now offering serene views of passing boats gliding along its surface. Through this remarkable photograph, we catch a glimpse of Glasgow's past—a moment frozen in time where modernization harmoniously coexists with age-old traditions. It reminds us of how cities evolve over time while retaining their unique character and charm.
