Clam Chowder Time! Brown Bear and Waterbirds Team Up for a Tasty Feast in Alaska's Mudflats
EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this hilarious snapshot captured by the talented John Shaw, we witness an extraordinary culinary collaboration between a clever brown bear (Ursus arctos) and a flock of waterbirds. It seems that these resourceful creatures have discovered the ultimate seafood buffet on Lake Clark National Park's tidal mudflat! With its keen sense of smell, our hungry protagonist has sniffed out the hidden treasure beneath the muddy surface – clams galore! Undeterred by the squishy terrain, our bear friend fearlessly plunges headfirst into this gourmet adventure. Its determined paws dig deep into the muck as it unearths succulent clams with each swipe. But wait, there's more to this feast than meets the eye! Enter stage right: a lively troupe of waterbirds who've caught wind of this delectable spectacle. They eagerly join forces with their furry comrade-in-crime, hoping to snatch up any leftovers or perhaps even steal a clam or two from under Mr. Bear's nose. As if nature couldn't get any more entertaining, Shaw captures not only this delightful camaraderie but also showcases stunning reflections shimmering across the mudflat’s surface. This harmonious scene reminds us that even in Alaska's vast wilderness, unexpected friendships can form over shared meals. So next time you find yourself strolling along Lake Clark National Park’s
