EDITORS COMMENTS
Norman Jarmaine, a young black apprentice, receives the VIP treatment on his first day at Metalbox in Leicester. The photograph captures the essence of apprehension and excitement that comes with starting a new journey in life. It was taken on Monday 7th August 1978, during the vibrant era of the 1970s. In this snapshot from Memory Lane Prints, Norman stands confidently beside a sleek Rolls Royce as he waves goodbye to his family and friends. Dressed in fashionable flares and trendy clothing of the time, he represents both youth culture and ethnic minorities breaking barriers in society. The image beautifully showcases not only Norman's bright future but also highlights the progress made towards diversity and inclusion within workplaces during that period. As an aspiring apprentice entering into a world dominated by older generations, Norman's presence challenges stereotypes while paving the way for other young talents like himself. This photograph is more than just a visual representation; it symbolizes hope, determination, and ambition. It serves as an inspiration for all those who strive to overcome obstacles regardless of their background or ethnicity. As we look back at this moment frozen in time through Memory Lane Prints' lens, we celebrate Norman Jarmaine's courage and resilience as he embarks on his professional journey with Metalbox - forever etching his name into history.
