EDITORS COMMENTS
In this poignant photograph captured by Bill Rowntree, we witness a moment of deep sorrow and resilience as Mass is said at Westminster Cathedral for Pope John Paul II. The date etched in history, 13th May 1981, marks the fateful afternoon when the beloved pontiff was shot. The image transports us back to the 1980s, a time when faith and religion played an integral role in people's lives. Within the grandeur of the cathedral's walls, Catholics from all walks of life gather together to offer prayers for their wounded spiritual leader. The atmosphere is heavy with emotion as pious individuals bow their heads in solemn prayer. Their faces reflect both grief and hope - grief for the tragic event that has unfolded earlier that day, but also hope for healing and recovery. This photograph serves as a powerful reminder of how faith can unite communities during times of adversity. It captures not only a religious ceremony but also an unwavering display of support and love towards Pope John Paul II.
