EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print from Memory Lane Prints, we are transported back to the vibrant 1980s in Birmingham, where the iconic reggae-pop group UB40 is captured opening a brand new hairdressing salon. The image showcases Norman Hasan, one of the band members, confidently cutting the ribbon and marking this momentous occasion on the 3rd of July in 1985. The photograph perfectly encapsulates an era defined by its unique sense of style and self-expression. As UB40 was not only known for their infectious music but also for their distinctive appearance, it comes as no surprise that they ventured into the world of hairdressing. Their influence extended beyond just entertainment; they were trendsetters who embraced personal expression through fashion and grooming. This snapshot offers a glimpse into a time when pop culture icons like UB40 seamlessly merged different industries to create exciting ventures. It symbolizes how music transcends boundaries and inspires individuals to explore diverse avenues. Moreover, being set in Birmingham's West Midlands region adds another layer of significance to this image.
