EDITORS COMMENTS
In this heartwarming print from 1989, we see Mrs Sue Berger, the dedicated RSPCA schools officer, surrounded by a group of enthusiastic second-year pupils from Fartown High School. Satinder Singh, Debra Jeffrey, Jaime Szydelco, and Daniel Donald are all beaming with excitement as they pose alongside their beloved teacher. This snapshot captures a special moment in which these young minds were immersed in an important lesson about our relationship with animals. As part of their English class curriculum, the students delved into the world of working animals and explored how they assist people in various ways. However, it wasn't just about celebrating the positive aspects; Mrs Berger also shed light on the unfortunate reality of animal cruelty. To enhance their learning experience further, Mrs Berger engaged her students through an engaging slide show presentation and captivating talk. The children's enthusiasm for the subject matter is evident through their impressive display work that accompanies them in this photograph. Taken in Huddersfield's Fartown High School on November 9th, 1989, this image serves as a testament to both education and compassion. It showcases not only Mrs Berger's dedication to spreading awareness but also highlights these young individuals' eagerness to understand and make a difference when it comes to animal welfare. As we look back at this nostalgic piece from "all our yesterdays" let us remember the importance of instilling empathy towards animals within future generations – an invaluable lesson that transcends time.
