W. R. U. Cup Final, Cardiff Arms Park, 26th April 1975. Carrying the cup

W.R.U. Cup Final, Cardiff Arms Park, 26th April 1975. Carrying the cup, Llanelli captain Phil Bennett ends a lap of honour chased by Llanelli supporters. THE mystery surrounding a tattered 1976 Llanelli rugby jersey, once worn by legendary Welsh fly-half Phil Bennett, and unearthed in the dusty back-room of a Western Australian rugby club has been solved thanks to a Cardiff born mayor in the city where it was found.
The faded shirt which had languished for years alongside gym equipment and next to a public toilet has now been replicated and framed by Palmyra Rugby Club stalwarts in Perth.
The campaign to revive and prominently display the sporting memorabilia was launched by mayor of Melville, Perth, and club patron Russell Aubrey who demanded it should be " refurbished and placed in the main club as are other jerseys, which arguably were worn by rugby men of lesser significance than Phil."

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print from the W. R. U. Cup Final on April 26th, 1975, we witness a moment of pure triumph and adoration. Llanelli captain Phil Bennett carries the coveted cup as he embarks on a lap of honor at Cardiff Arms Park. Behind him, an exuberant sea of Llanelli supporters eagerly chase after their beloved hero. However, the story behind this iconic image takes an unexpected turn. A tattered and forgotten relic from that very match - a 1976 Llanelli rugby jersey worn by none other than Phil Bennett himself - was discovered in an unlikely place: the dusty back-room of a Western Australian rugby club. It had been left to languish alongside gym equipment and even next to a public toilet for years. Thanks to Russell Aubrey, mayor of Melville in Perth and patron of Palmyra Rugby Club where the jersey was found, this remarkable piece of sporting history has been given new life. Determined to honor its significance appropriately, Aubrey spearheaded a campaign demanding that it be refurbished and prominently displayed within the main club. Now replicated and framed with utmost care by dedicated members of Palmyra Rugby Club, this once-forgotten treasure serves as both a testament to Phil Bennett's extraordinary talent and an emblematic reminder of the passion that unites fans across generations.
