EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back to the 1990s, specifically September 24th, 1992, when it captured a general view of ICI Wilton. The image showcases the immense scale and industrial prowess of this British chemical company located in East Cleveland, North Yorkshire. As our eyes wander across the frame, we are drawn to the towering presence of the cooling towers that dominate the landscape. The photograph serves as a reminder of an era when manufacturing and industry played a significant role in shaping communities like Redcar and Cleveland on Teesside. However, it also raises questions about environmental impact and pollution associated with such large-scale operations. ICI (Imperial Chemical Industries) was renowned for its contributions to various sectors during its time. This snapshot offers a glimpse into their world - one filled with innovation, scientific advancements, and economic growth. Yet behind this impressive facade lies concerns about sustainability and ecological balance. As we reflect on this image from Memory Lane Prints by Mirrorpix, let us appreciate both the achievements and challenges faced by industries like ICI during that period. It is through photographs like these that we can gain insight into our past while contemplating how far we have come in terms of balancing progress with environmental responsibility.
