EDITORS COMMENTS
The bus station at Broadgate, devoid of shoppers after the Christmas shopping rush. 29th December 1973 captures a nostalgic moment in time, transporting us back to the bustling streets of the 1970s. As we gaze upon this print, we are immediately struck by the absence of people amidst an otherwise vibrant cityscape. The image showcases a double-decker bus parked at the deserted bus station, its doors closed as if waiting for passengers who will never arrive. The once busy terminal now stands eerily quiet and still, with no sign of life except for one senior woman patiently waiting on a bench. Owen and Owen's iconic signage proudly adorns nearby shops that were undoubtedly filled with eager customers just days before. This photograph serves as a reminder that even in our fast-paced world, there are moments when time seems to stand still - like this brief interlude between two major events: Christmas and New Year's Eve. Transportation plays a significant role in connecting communities, but here it symbolizes more than just movement from one place to another; it represents a pause in our daily routines. It invites us to reflect on the passing seasons and appreciate these rare instances when silence envelops familiar spaces. This snapshot from Memory Lane Prints encapsulates both nostalgia for simpler times and curiosity about what lies beyond its frame.
