EDITORS COMMENTS
This print from Memory Lane Prints takes us back to the bustling Jesmond Railway Station in December 1984. The image showcases a fascinating juxtaposition of old and new, as it captures both the traditional carriage and the modern signal box that once stood proudly at this historic station. The railway tracks stretch out into the distance, symbolizing countless journeys taken by trains filled with passengers seeking adventure or simply commuting to their daily destinations. A group of workmen can be seen diligently going about their tasks, perhaps maintaining or upgrading the railway infrastructure for smoother travels. A sturdy ladder leans against the side of the carriage, hinting at ongoing renovations or preparations for its transformation into a unique dining experience. It is here that we learn about an exciting development - on 11th December 1984, this very spot will become La Cabina restaurant! Imagining how this former signal box will soon welcome diners to savor delicious meals while surrounded by remnants of railway history adds an intriguing layer to this snapshot frozen in time. As we gaze upon this nostalgic scene, memories flood our minds: crowded platforms filled with eager travelers bidding farewell or eagerly awaiting loved ones' return; whistles blowing and engines chugging along; and all those moments when public transport connected people from different walks of life. Thanks to NCJ's impeccable photography skills, we are transported back to an era where railways were not just means of transportation but also gateways to unforgettable experiences.
