EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print captured by Liz Pearce, we are transported back to the nostalgic streets of Merthyr - Old. The image showcases a scene from Mary Ann Street in Dowlais, where parents lovingly watch over their children as they engage in playful activities. It is a snapshot frozen in time, taken on the 15th of June 1973. The photograph beautifully encapsulates the essence of the 1970s era with its terraced houses lining the road and providing a backdrop to this heartwarming moment. These humble dwellings would soon face demolition, making way for more modern surroundings that would house residents in the future. As we gaze upon this image, we can't help but be drawn into the innocence and joy emanating from these children's games. Their laughter fills the air as they run freely along Mary Ann Street, oblivious to any worries or cares that may exist beyond their immediate world. Meanwhile, vigilant mothers stand nearby, keeping a watchful eye on their little ones' adventures. Their love and protective instincts evident in every glance and gesture. This print serves as a poignant reminder of simpler times when communities thrived within close-knit neighborhoods like those found in Merthyr - Old. It captures not only an era but also celebrates childhood friendships forged through imaginative play amidst familiar surroundings. Liz Pearce has masterfully preserved this slice of history through her lens, allowing us to step back into an era filled with warmth and nostalgia whenever we lay our eyes upon it
