EDITORS COMMENTS
Captured in the heart of London Zoo, this timeless photograph transports us back to September 1978, where a tender moment between mother rhinoceros June and her newborn baby Kes unfolds. The print by Sidey Arthur from Memory Lane Prints beautifully encapsulates the essence of the 1970s era, showcasing an endearing bond between these majestic creatures. In this image, we witness June's protective nature as she stands tall beside her two-day-old calf. Her weathered skin tells tales of wisdom and experience, while Kes embodies innocence with his small stature and delicate features. Their contrasting sizes create a striking visual contrast that highlights the vulnerability yet strength within their relationship. The photographer's choice to capture this scene in black and white adds a touch of nostalgia to the composition. It allows us to focus solely on the intimate connection shared between mother and child without any distractions. The absence of color also enhances our appreciation for their unique textures - from June's rough hide to Kes' soft wrinkles. This photo is not just about cute animals; it serves as a reminder of our responsibility towards preserving endangered species like rhinoceroses. Through its simplicity, it compels us to reflect on humanity's impact on wildlife habitats and urges us to take action for their conservation. Sidey Arthur's remarkable snapshot freezes time, allowing future generations to marvel at these magnificent creatures during an unforgettable moment at London Zoo.
