EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photograph from the Memory Lane Prints collection, we are transported back to the vibrant atmosphere of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August 1997. The image captures a fleeting moment that encapsulates the essence of this renowned cultural event. Standing tall amidst a sea of festival-goers is Alexandra Bourhill, her face beaming with excitement as she meets an extraordinary figure on stilts. This larger-than-life character becomes even more enchanting against the backdrop of Holyrood Park's Sunday Jamboree. The juxtaposition between their heights creates a whimsical scene that seems straight out of a fairytale. The man on stilts exudes an air of mystery and wonder, his costume adorned with intricate details that hint at his role within this fantastical world. As they engage in conversation, one can only imagine what stories or secrets they might be sharing. It is moments like these that make the Edinburgh Fringe Festival so magical - where strangers become friends and ordinary encounters transform into extraordinary memories. Dodds Paul's skillful composition and choice to capture this encounter in timeless monochrome adds depth and nostalgia to the image. It serves as a reminder not only of our personal experiences but also highlights how art has the power to transport us through time. This print invites us to relive those cherished moments when we were captivated by unexpected encounters during one unforgettable summer in 1997 at Edinburgh's iconic Fringe Festival.
