EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back to the 1940s, during the tumultuous times of World War II. Titled "Landgirl sowing by the old fashioned Fiddle method" it beautifully captures a group of resilient farming women fulfilling men's work duties on an idyllic countryside farm. The image exudes strength, determination, and unity as these brave ladies step up to ensure food production during a time when manpower was scarce. The photograph showcases one particular landgirl diligently sowing seeds using the traditional fiddle method – a technique passed down through generations. With her sleeves rolled up and dirt-stained hands, she embodies the spirit of hard work and resilience that defined this era. Surrounded by vast fields stretching into the horizon, this snapshot encapsulates both beauty and hardship. It serves as a poignant reminder of how ordinary individuals played extraordinary roles in supporting their countries during wartime. George Greenwell's masterful composition transports us back in time, allowing us to witness firsthand the dedication and sacrifice made by these unsung heroes. As we gaze upon this powerful image from Memory Lane Prints, we are reminded of the indomitable human spirit that prevailed even amidst adversity – a timeless testament to our shared history.
