EDITORS COMMENTS
This charming photograph captures the bond between a young woman and her beloved Pekingese dog in a serene garden setting, circa 1910s. The woman, elegantly dressed in a white blouse and skirt, sits gracefully on a wicker chair with a centre parting in her hair adorned with a delicate ring. Her cherished Pekingese, a popular lapdog breed during that era, sits obediently by her side, its coat glossy and well-groomed. The lush greenery and vibrant flowers surrounding them add to the idyllic atmosphere, creating a sense of tranquility and happiness. The woman's gentle touch on the dog's head and the dog's contented expression further emphasize the deep connection between them. Pekingese dogs, also known as Pekes or Peke-a-poos, originated in China and were highly prized for their distinctive appearance and companionship. They were often kept by the Chinese imperial court and were considered a symbol of wealth and status. This photograph is a beautiful reminder of the enduring bond between humans and their pets, and the joy that they bring to our lives. It also offers a glimpse into the past, providing a window into the history and culture of the early 20th century.
