EDITORS COMMENTS
Step back in time with this street scene from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, circa 1914. The photograph, taken in the Racine district, showcases the charm and simplicity of a bygone era. A group of boys, dressed in their Sunday best, gather outside a cinema, their eyes fixed on the marquee that advertises a matinee showing. The cinema, with its ornate design and grandeur, stands proudly next to the People's Cash Market, a bustling neighborhood store. The boys, with their rosy cheeks and wide grins, seem to be filled with excitement and anticipation as they prepare to enter the cinema. The star of the matinee is not visible on the advertising board, leaving the audience to imagine which silver screen legend could be gracing the screen. A cart and a few passersby add to the lively atmosphere of the scene. This photograph offers a glimpse into the past, transporting us to a time when going to the movies was a special treat, and the community hub was the corner store. The vintage aesthetic, with its muted colors and intricate details, adds to the nostalgic feel of this enchanting image.
