EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a piece of early 20th-century history in London - the steam delivery lorry of W.V. Bowater and Sons, making its way down Queen Victoria Street to deliver huge rolls of paper for printing newspapers. The sheer size of the rolls being transported is truly impressive, highlighting the scale of the newspaper industry during this time. The image provides a glimpse into a bygone era when steam-powered vehicles were essential for transporting goods across bustling city streets. The lorry itself is a testament to the industrial advancements of the 1930s, with its sturdy construction and powerful engine propelling it forward on its delivery route. As we gaze upon this snapshot from the past, we are reminded of the vital role that newspapers played in disseminating information to the public before the digital age. Each roll of paper carried by this lorry represents countless pages filled with news stories, advertisements, and announcements that would soon be printed and distributed throughout London. Overall, this print serves as a visual reminder of how far technology has come in terms of transportation and communication. It also pays homage to the hardworking individuals who helped keep the wheels turning in an industry that was crucial to keeping people informed about current events.
