EDITORS COMMENTS
Step back in time with this photograph of the bustling business district in Viborg, South Dakota, USA, circa 1930. The image showcases two prominent establishments on the street: Clyde A Keller Drugstore and Olsen Hardware Store. The Clyde A Keller Drugstore, located on the left side of the street, was a staple in the community during the 1930s. Keller's pharmacy offered a wide range of remedies and prescriptions, as well as a soda fountain where locals gathered for a refreshing beverage and a chat. The large Kodak sign above the entrance suggests that photography supplies and services were also available. Across the street, the Olsen Hardware Store stood tall and proud. This establishment catered to the farming community by providing essential tools, hardware, and supplies for their daily needs. The cars parked in front of the stores indicate the convenience of these businesses, as customers could easily access them by automobile. The architecture of the buildings, with their brick facades and large display windows, adds to the charm of this scene. The image transports us back to a time when small-town businesses thrived and played a vital role in the daily lives of their communities. This photograph is a testament to the rich history of Viborg, South Dakota, and the businesses that shaped its past.
