EDITORS COMMENTS
In the heart of West Bengal, India, lies the small town of Kalna, famously known as the "Temple City" for its impressive collection of Shiva Temples. The most notable of these is the Nava Kailash or the 108 Shiva Temples, built in 1809. This architectural marvel is situated in a serene and lush green environment, surrounded by gardens and hedges. The temple complex is a perfect circle, with two concentric circles of temples. The outer circle consists of 74 temples, each housing a Shiva Lingam made of white marble and black stone. The inner circle comprises 34 temples, all adorned with pure white marble Shiva Lingams. Each temple is designed to allow the devotees to view all the Shiva Lingams from the central point of the temple complex. The Nava Kailash temples are a testament to the rich history and cultural heritage of India. The temples' intricate architecture, with their curved domes and tall spires, reflect the Oriental influence on Indian art and design. The temples' white marble and black stone structures stand in stark contrast against the lush green hedges and gardens, creating a picturesque scene that is both calming and inspiring. The belief in Shiva as the supreme god of Hinduism is deeply rooted in the Indian psyche, and the Nava Kailash temples are a manifestation of this belief. The temples are a place of worship, a place of peace, and a place of history, attracting devotees and tourists alike. The path leading to the temple complex is lined with trees, adding to the tranquil ambiance of the place. The Nava Kailash temples of Kalna are a must-visit for anyone interested in Indian history, culture, and spirituality.
