EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph showcases the Short S.26 Golden Hind, registration number G-AFCI, as it gracefully takes to the skies. The Short S.26, also known as the Golden Hind, is a versatile British transport aircraft that was designed and built by Short Brothers in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The Short S.26 was a significant development in Short Brothers' aviation history, first flying in 1932. It was a single-engine, single-bay biplane with a wooden structure and fabric covering. The aircraft was renowned for its short takeoff and landing capabilities, making it an ideal choice for various roles, including passenger transport, air ambulance, and even as a flying boat. In this image, the Golden Hind's sleek lines and elegant design are on full display as it ascends into the clear blue sky. The aircraft's wings, with their distinctive strut-braced biplane configuration, spread wide, while the single engine, mounted in a nacelle beneath the fuselage, roars to life, propelling the plane forward. The pilot, clad in a leather flying helmet and goggles, focuses intently on the horizon, ready to navigate the open skies. The Short S.26 Golden Hind, G-AFCI, remains a cherished piece of aviation history, a testament to the ingenuity and innovation of Short Brothers and the golden age of aviation. This photograph captures the essence of the era, offering a glimpse into a time when flying was an exhilarating and daring endeavor.
