EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph, taken at Warton in the year 1970, showcases two iconic Jaguar aircraft models, the Jaguar S06 XW560 on the left and the Jaguar S07 XW563 on the right. The Jaguar S06 and S07 were not commercial airliners, but rather advanced military jets developed by British Aircraft Corporation (BAC) for the Royal Air Force. Following successful test flights, these two sleek and powerful jets are seen here at Warton, a well-known site for aircraft testing and development in the United Kingdom. The Jaguar S06, represented by XW560, was a variable geometry swing-wing jet designed for tactical strike and reconnaissance missions. Its innovative wing design allowed it to adapt to various mission requirements, enhancing its versatility and effectiveness. The Jaguar S07, symbolized by XW563, was a two-seat, twin-engine variant of the Jaguar S06, primarily used for training purposes. Both jets boasted impressive capabilities, including supersonic speed and advanced avionics, making them formidable additions to the Royal Air Force's inventory. This photograph captures a significant moment in the history of military aviation, with these two Jaguar jets standing proudly at Warton, having completed their test flights and ready for further evaluation and deployment.
