EDITORS COMMENTS
This intriguing photograph showcases a Prometheus Shaving Lamp, manufactured by W.H. Williams Patent, during the First World War. The lamp, a private purchase item for officers, was a thoughtful addition to the rigors of military life. The lamp's design was both functional and innovative, combining a shaving brush set with a base that served as a Primus type fitting for heating water. The top section of the lamp housed the shaving brush, providing a convenient and accessible storage solution for the essential grooming tool. The base, meanwhile, was equipped with a Primus type fitting, a common heating system used during the war for cooking and water heating. This feature allowed soldiers to heat water for their shaving needs, ensuring a comfortable and efficient shaving experience even in the most challenging conditions. The Prometheus Shaving Lamp was a testament to the ingenuity and resourcefulness of the time. It reflected the desire to bring a touch of comfort and familiarity to the harsh realities of military life during the First World War. The image of this lamp, with its brass finish and intricate details, evokes a sense of history and the resilience of those who used it. This photograph is a reminder of the small yet significant comforts that made a difference in the lives of soldiers during the 1st Great Military Conflict.
