EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph, taken in the year 1914, captures the essence of a leisurely weekend activity enjoyed by two friends as they embark on a countryside ramble. The scene is set with the two chaps, dressed in sturdy walking boots and donning pipes in their mouths, ready to tackle the challenging terrain of the English countryside. Their faces are filled with excitement and anticipation as they consult their well-worn maps, planning their route for the day. The peace and tranquility of the countryside offered a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of urban living. With the advent of the weekend, these men, and many others like them, would set off on their rambling adventures, often in the company of friends. The two friends, with their determined expressions and robust attire, embody the spirit of adventure and camaraderie that defined the week-end ramblers of the early 20th century.
