EDITORS COMMENTS
In this evocative photograph, the Breguet Br.941S 62-ND, formerly of the French Air Force's Escadrille de transport 3/62 Ventoux, is seen on display at Le Bourget Airport on 11 November 1981. The Breguet Br.941S, also known as the "Sperrin," was a versatile transport aircraft that served the Armee de l'Air from 1958 until its retirement in the late 1980s. This particular aircraft, with the manufacturing serial number 4, bears the markings of Escadrille de transport 3/62 Ventoux, a unit that specialized in the transportation of personnel and cargo within the French military. The "Ventoux" designation was in honor of Mont Ventoux, a famous mountain in southern France. The Breguet Br.941S was a twin-engine, high-wing monoplane that could carry up to 22 passengers or 4,400 kg (9,700 lbs) of cargo. Its versatility was further enhanced by the ability to be configured for various roles, such as medical evacuation, paratroop drops, and even aerial refueling. By the late 1970s and early 1980s, the Breguet Br.941S was being replaced by more modern transport aircraft, such as the Transall C-160. As a result, the aircraft was retired from military service and eventually found its way to the Musee de l'Air et de l'Espace, where it was put on display for the public to appreciate. This photograph captures the Breguet Br.941S 62-ND in its final days as a military aircraft, standing proudly at Le Bourget Airport amidst the backdrop of the museum's hangars and other aviation relics. The image serves as a testament to the aircraft's storied history and its contributions to French military aviation.
