EDITORS COMMENTS
is a captivating photograph by Rick Elmes, capturing the essence of leisurely living during the Indian Summer of 1927. The image features three charming young women dressed in light summer frocks and sun hats, effortlessly gliding along a serene river in a traditional English punt boat. The warm hues of autumn leaves reflecting on the water add to the idyllic scene, highlighting the beauty of the late summer season. The month of September, often referred to as Indian Summer, is a time of transition between summer and autumn. The name originated from the native American belief that the warm weather was sent by the gods to give the harvested crops a final chance to ripen. This photograph perfectly encapsulates the spirit of this transitional period, with the girls' sun-kissed complexions and the abundance of ripe fruits and vegetables in the background. The women's elegant attire and relaxed posture exude an air of sophistication and carefree enjoyment, making this image a timeless representation of the 1920s and the fashionable lifestyle of the era. The boat, with its distinctive shape and long oars, adds to the nostalgic charm of the scene, transporting us back in time to a simpler era of leisure and relaxation. Rick Elmes, a renowned photographer of the time, expertly captured this moment of tranquility and beauty, providing us with a glimpse into the past and reminding us of the simple pleasures of life. "Peaches Still in Season" is not only a stunning work of art but also a historical document, offering a glimpse into the fashion, culture, and lifestyle of the 1920s.
