This evocative woodcut print depicts Paul Eber (1511-1569), a renowned German Protestant theologian and Hebrew scholar. Eber's intellectual prowess and commitment to the Reformation movement made him a significant figure in the religious and academic landscape of the 16th century. Born in Nuremberg, Eber studied at the University of Wittenberg under the tutelage of Martin Luther, the father of the Protestant Reformation. He was one of the first Protestant scholars to translate the Hebrew Bible into German, a project that took him over two decades to complete.
