EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the serene beauty of The Park in Bulawayo, Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), during the 1920s. The image transports us back in time to an era of colonial rule and the distinct charm of the African continent in the 20s. The Park, a lush and verdant expanse, is adorned with tall, majestic trees that provide ample shade and shelter from the African sun. The trees, with their outstretched branches and vibrant foliage, create a canopy that adds to the park's natural allure. In the foreground, a gazebo, with its intricate design and whitewashed walls, stands as a testament to the colonial influence that once dominated this part of Africa. The tranquility of the scene is further emphasized by the absence of people, allowing the viewer to imagine the peaceful ambiance that once existed in this idyllic setting. The Park in Bulawayo was a popular destination for the European settlers and their families, who sought refuge from the heat of the day and the hustle and bustle of the city. This photograph is a poignant reminder of a bygone era, a time when colonialism held sway over much of Africa, and the continent was on the cusp of significant change. The Park in Bulawayo, with its timeless beauty and rich history, remains an enduring symbol of the African continent's past, present, and future.
