EDITORS COMMENTS
This striking photograph captures the traditional uniform of an Officer and Sergeant of the Seaforth Highlanders (Rosshire Buffs, Duke of Albany's) during World War II. The Seaforth Highlanders, a Scottish infantry regiment formed in 1778 by the Earl of Seaforth, are renowned for their distinctive tartan and long-standing military history. The Officer, dressed in his full regalia, wears a red tunic with gold buttons and a black waistcoat, adorned with a silver star signifying his rank. His kilt, in the Seaforth tartan, is accessorized with a sporran, socks, and a flashy silver buckle. The Officer completes his uniform with a bearskin hat, a ceremonial sword, and a rifle slung over his shoulder. The Sergeant, on the other hand, dons a similar tunic but with silver buttons, and his kilt is in the same Seaforth tartan. He wears a black sporran, black socks, and a black belt with a silver buckle. The Sergeant's most notable accessory is his bearskin hat, which is adorned with a white feather plume and a badge of rank. Both the Officer and Sergeant carry their rifles at the ready, exuding a sense of discipline and preparedness. This photograph, taken in 1942, is a testament to the rich Scottish military heritage and the enduring tradition of the Seaforth Highlanders. The uniforms, with their intricate details and vibrant colors, are a sight to behold and serve as a reminder of the regiment's proud history and the sacrifices made by its members in the name of duty and country.
