EDITORS COMMENTS
A glimpse into the past: The High Street, Ashbury, Wiltshire, 1931. This evocative photograph transports us back in time to a quintessential English village scene. Located in the picturesque county of Wiltshire, Ashbury is a charming, historic village nestled amidst rolling hills and verdant countryside. The photograph captures the High Street in 1931, a time when horse-drawn carts and motorcars coexisted, and life moved at a more leisurely pace. The cobblestone street is lined with quaint, half-timbered houses, their gabled facades adorned with ivy and flowers. The warm, golden light filters through the trees, casting long shadows on the street. A horse-drawn cart, laden with goods, makes its way down the street, while a motorcar, a symbol of modernity, waits patiently at the side of the road. The villagers go about their daily business, some stopping to chat with neighbors, others tending to their shops. This photograph offers a fascinating glimpse into a bygone era, a time when life was simpler, and the rhythms of village life were dictated by the changing seasons. It is a reminder of the rich history and charm of Ashbury, a village that continues to captivate visitors with its timeless beauty and character.
